Nothing beats having someone help you along who has been on the road, and faced the challenges, a little longer.

I seek to help you achieve your goals on the violin by showing you how to work with the instrument, not against it.

Hour-long lessons are held in one of my three studios: Dupont Circle (DC); Ellicott City, MD; and Vienna, VA.  For more information call, email or fill out the contact form on this page.

Learn to play by mastering the instrument!

With each individual student, I offer exercises, pieces and practice tips that will help you to immediately begin seeing positive results.

I believe that anyone can play the violin well and take his or her next step in music. It makes a big difference to have the right teacher to help you learn how to get from here to there.

Anyone who attained proficiency on the violin had a teacher to show them the way.  Much of what is thought of as difficult to play or understand in music is only mysterious until it is explained and practiced.

Teaching Bio:

Emil Chudnovsky is an expert teacher and coach with over a decade of experience teaching violinists of all levels, from beginner to very advanced competition-level performers. A graduate of Yale University (Certificate of Performance) and the Mannes College of Music in New York (BM), Mr. Chudnovsky is a nine-time international competition winner and laureate. An experienced soloist, he has recorded six CDs, performed recitals and concerts in over 30 countries, and been frequently invited to give master-classes domestically in California, Florida, Maryland and abroad in South America, New Zealand and Japan.

Mr. Chudnovsky’s pre-college students have won admission to the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Central Music School in Moscow, the Mannes College of Music in New York, and the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. They have won prizes at such area competitions as the Washington Performing Arts Society’s prestigious Feder Competition, the Owings Mills Young Artist Competition, the Young Artists’ Awards of the City of Gaithersburg and at the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic competition. Most recently, in the fall of 2008, Mr. Chudnovsky was invited to judge the state level of the Music Teacher’s National Association Violin Competition and to coach the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra’s string sections.

Mr. Chudnovsky’s students have performed as soloists with orchestras in the greater DC area and have successfully auditioned for Maryland’s All-State and All-County orchestras.  In recital, his students have performed in Russia, Bulgaria, and in the DC area at such prestigious venues as the Russian Embassy and the Ukrainian Embassy, as well as in special appearances before His Majesty, the King of Norway and before His Excellency, the Ambassador of Romania.
